Rich yet refined, the palate layers dark cherry, licorice, and savory spice over a framework of supple tannins and vibrant acidity. Complex, expressive, and remarkably youthful, Grand continues to balance power with restraint, offering both immediate enjoyment and the promise of continued development in the cellar.

  • Winemaking

Grand is the pinnacle of the Sea Smoke Estate, an artful blend of the most distinguished Pinot Noir lots from the 2019 vintage, chosen for complexity, structure, and aging potential. Hand-harvested clusters were sorted at the winery, chilled, and gently
destemmed, with jack stems removed following destemming to ensure purity. Whole berries underwent a long cold soak followed by a cool and slow fermentation with regular hand punch-downs to gently extract color and flavor from the berries. Each individual fermenter was tasted every day, and when it had achieved its optimal balance of flavor and polished tannins, was drained, with the skins separately pressed. The free-run wine was aged 16 months in French oak, bottled without fining or filtration, and then cellared for five years post-bottling. The result is a wine of remarkable harmony, depth, and elegance, showcasing the very best of the vintage.

The 2019 vintage reflects many of the qualities that make Sea Smoke pinot noir so compelling. A cool growing season, marked by steady fog influence and slow ripening, allowed the fruit to develop exceptional balance. The wines show vibrant fruit character, energetic acidity, and layered complexity, resulting in a vintage that is both expressive today and well-suited for cellaring.
